The Forman School has bought property at 88 West St. for faculty housing and plans to pay full taxes on it. Forman, as a private school, could seek tax-exempt status on the property but won't, according to school officials.
"As part of the Litchfield community, the Forman School does not want to deprive the town of tax revenue it has come to anticipate," the school said in a statement this week.
Forman, which doesn't pay taxes on its Norfolk Road campus, bought the three houses at 88 West St. from F. Michael Garrity for $800,000. The property, assessed at $382,170, is generating $8,369 in tax revenue this year.
The largest of the three houses is a two-family home fronting West Street. Two smaller houses are located at the rear of the property.
Forman funded the purchase with donations from Michael and Desiree Jebsen of Hong Kong and the Larry and Jane Schienfeld Foundation of New York City.
