Revolutionary War heroes Oliver Wolcott Sr. and Benjamin Tallmadge were recognized during the annual Independence Day tribute at East Cemetery on Sunday. The tribute at the burial plots of the two Litchfield men was held by the Mary Floyd Tallmadge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Litchfield, which is named for Tallmadge's wife, and the Gov. Oliver Wolcott Sr. Connecticut Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. In the photos, the First Litchfield Artillery Regiment blasts its cannon at the start of the tribute and Mary Floyd Tallmadge Chapter members pose for a photo afterwards. Wolcott signed the Declaration of Independence and was a brigadier general during the war. Tallmadge, as a colonel, was Gen. George Washington's spymaster. His Culper Ring relayed British troop movements in and around New York City to Washington's headquarters in upstate New York.
