Dunkin Donuts will be packing up and moving to a larger space in the Village Green commercial center on West Street now that the Planning and Zoning Commission has approved the move.
The commission's unanimous approval came Monday after the attorney for Dunkin Donuts, Brian McCormick of Torrington, submitted a plan showing the addition of a pedestrian crosswalk in the parking lot Dunkin Donuts shares with Senor Panchos and two other businesses.
Planning and zoning had expressed concern about pedestrian safety during a public hearing on the proposed move. The crosswalk will help pedestrians walking to Dunkin Donuts from parking areas in Village Green.
Dunkin Donuts will move into the space that was occupied by Blockbuster Video and will be able to more than double its seating capacity, to 32. During the public hearing, McCormick said the larger store would offer customers a chance to spend more time sitting in a spacious and comfortable environment. Service will remain over the counter.
