State and local investigators work to determine the cause of a fire at
11 Main St. in Northfield on Friday. They found the cause to be electrical.
A house at 11 Main St. in Northfield was seriously damaged in an electrical fire on Friday. The house was sold on Wednesday and was vacant at the time of the fire, which was reported just after 8 a.m. and drew firefighters from Northfield, Litchfield, East Litchfield, Thomaston and Watertown. Fire Marshal Thomas O'Hare, working with the state Fire Marshal's Office, determined that an electrical short in the roof above the second floor started the fire. The house, built in 1850, was purchased by Robert DeLong and William Belejack for $189,900 and is assessed at $139,710, according to town land records. The roof and second floor sustained heavy damage and the first floor had water damage, Northfield Fire Chief Michael Berry said.
