Public hearing set on sewer use increase
Litchfield.bz (6-9-10)

A public hearing on the Water Pollution Control Authority's decision to increase sewer user rates by $3 a month beginning July 1 to help reduce a gap between expenditures and revenue will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Litchfield firehouse.

Yearly rates will be $348 per unit with the increase. One unit is defined as a single-family dwelling. A two-family home is two units. The increase will affect commercial properties as well.

The increase in rates will generate an extra $80,000 in revenue that will allow the WPCA to reduce its annual operating deficit from $180,000 to $100,000. Debt service on the completed upgrade of the sewage treatment plant on Stoddard Road is included in the deficit.
