Warren's new Town Hall open for business
Litchfield.bz (6-7-10)

Warren First Selectman Jack Travers takes a phone call while coordinating the move into the new Town Hall.

The new $3.5 million Town Hall on Cemetery Road opened last week, replacing the 61-year-old Town Hall on Sackett Hill Road.

First Selectman Jack Travers donned overalls and coordinated the move into the 13,599 square-foot building that features a pitched roof with a cupola, skylights and 23 windows with southern exposure, a 40-seat meeting room, an elevator, and two fire-proof, climate-controlled vaults.

In other words, it's a huge improvement over the cramped and musty old Town Hall, which didn't meet federal handicapped accessibility requirements.

All offices in the new Town Hall are located on the first, or ground, level and are accessible from the rear parking lot. On the basement level are the meeting room, storage and one of the vaults. The building was designed with enough space to meet the town's needs for decades.

Plans call for the Old Town Hall to be renovated for use as recreation and senior citizen center.
