Litchfield's Borough Board of Warden and Burgesses has again showed its willingness to compromise regarding the display of yellow ribbons on the Green.
Earlier in the month, the board agreed to fly a "Support the Troops" flag and five yellow ribbons on the flagpole on the Green in response to the furor over its decision not to allow ribbons on trees on the Green.
On Friday, the borough board went one step farther by agreeing to allow small yellow ribbons bearing the names of Litchfield men and women serving in the military to hang from one large yellow ribbon on a tree on the center section of the Green.
The large yellow ribbon on the tree was part of the initial compromise. The ribbon is expected to go up in the next week or so on a tree near the water fountain, next to the Green's war memorials.
Each of the small ribbons will be embroidered with the name of a resident in the service and their branch of the military. Judy Tringali of Judy's Pins and Needles of Litchfield has volunteered to do the embroidering. Litchfield Bancorp has agreed to sponsor the ribbons.
Those interested in having names stitched on ribbons must fill out an application. Applications are available at Town Hall and in the drop box outside the borough office on Russell Street.
The borough board on Friday also amended its bylaws to prohibit placement of ribbons representing other causes on trees on the Green.
