Chasing Tail: A Connecticut Biologist's Wildlife Encounters in South Africa

The White Memorial Conservation Center hosted a presentation on Saturday afternoon by biologist and videographer, Michael Sanders. Mike shared stories, pictures, and video adventures of his three month expedition in South Africa. An audience of 30 watched him tackle white lions, face off a water buffalo, ride an ostrich, run from a black rhino, and swim with great white sharks.

Northfield Volunteer Fire Department Breakfast

Over 300 people were served on Sunday morning at the monthly breakfast hosted by the Northfield Volunteer Fire Department. The proceeds are used to support the firehouse building fund.

 

 

Mumbet - The Story of Elizabeth Freeman

Co-authors David Levinson and Emilie Piper presented a lecture at the Litchfield History Museum on Sunday afternoon about the life of Elizabeth Freeman. This remarkable woman brought an action in 1781 to obtain her freedom under the new constitution of Massachusetts. She was ably defended by Tapping Reeve and his former student Theodore Sedgwick. Levinson and Piper are currently working on a soon to be released book titled "One Minute a Free Woman: Elizabeth Freeman and Her Quest for Freedom."
