Pink Ribbon Art at Common Ground

On October 16 and 17, 2010, Litchfield residents Wendy Costa and Rochelle Clementson will be walking 39.3 miles in the New York Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Each walker has a commitment to raise a minimum of $1800 for this cause, and walkers engage in many creative fundraisers to meet or exceed their goals.

Wendy Costa is currently showing her mixed media photographs at the Common Ground in Litchfield. She is going to donate all of the proceeds from this art exhibit to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. In addition, Common Ground is waiving their commission on art sales, so 100% of the funds will go directly to fight breast cancer. The show is now open and will continue through mid-April.

Wendy and Rochelle are honored to be walking with thousands of others who have made the same commitment: to help raise awareness and funding for this devastating disease. They will sleep in tents, shower in trucks, and push themselves far beyond what they ever thought they were capable of doing. The walk will take them through the boroughs of New York City, 26.2 miles the first day and 13.1 miles the second day.

Funds raised are managed and distributed by the Avon Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) public charity. Grants are awarded to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations to support five areas of the breast cancer cause, including: awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and, scientific research. Support for the medically underserved is a key priority. Beneficiaries range from leading cancer centers to community-based non-profit breast health programs, creating a powerful international network of research, medical, social service and community-based organizations focused on defeating breast cancer and ensuring access to care.

To make a direct, tax-deductible donation, visit avonwalk.org and click ”Donate Now.” There you can enter walkers by name, Wendy Costa, or Rochelle Clementson, and click “Find a Walker/Crew Member” to reach each walker’s donation page.

The Common Ground is located at 250 West St., Litchfield. Hours are Mon-Sat 6am-7pm and Sunday from 7am to 6pm.

Arts & Culture Page
We have set three goals for the Arts & Culture section: Profile persons within our community who are actively engaged, as a matter of interest or profession, in artistic and cultural pursuits; provide an opportunity for those people to share their work with us through stories, photography or video; and publish information about upcoming art and cultural events.

We encourage our audience to contribute newsworthy material to each of the sections of Litchfield.bz by sending information, articles, photos, videos, pod casts and other content to webmaster@litchfield.bz. We reserve the right to edit material for content.
